Real talk. Real laughs. Real recovery.

I'm Chad Sommer — recovery advocate, stand-up comic, and keynote speaker. I've been through the fire and I'm still here to talk about it, laugh about it, and help others find their way through it. No fluff. No scripts. Just the truth, delivered with heart.

"If I can laugh about it now, I survived it. And if I survived it, so can you."

The truth is funnier — and harder — than any script.

I've lived the story I tell on stage. Addiction took a lot from me — and getting it back taught me things no textbook ever could. What I discovered along the way is that humor isn't a way of avoiding pain; it's one of the most powerful ways of surviving it.

As a speaker and stand-up comic, I bring that raw, unfiltered experience to stages, treatment centers, conferences, and events. I don't talk at audiences — I talk with them. The result is something that lands differently than a typical keynote: honest, disarming, and real enough to actually move people.

Whether I'm headlining a recovery gala, speaking to a corporate team about mental health and resilience, performing at a comedy club, or sitting with a treatment community — my goal is always the same: leave people feeling less alone and more capable than when I walked in.

We've had a lot of keynote speakers at our annual recovery gala. Chad was the first one who had the whole room laughing and crying within the same ten minutes. Our attendees are still talking about it.

I brought Chad in to speak to our treatment community and wasn't sure how comedy would land with our residents. It was exactly what they needed — permission to laugh, real talk they could trust, and someone who truly gets it.

Chad headlined our recovery comedy night and absolutely crushed it. He's the real deal — not a guy who read about addiction, but someone who lived it and somehow turned it into art. Booked him again for next year.

Frequently asked questions about recovery coaching

What does an addiction recovery coach actually do?

A recovery coach provides personalized, non-clinical support to help you navigate substance use disorder, build a recovery plan, manage cravings and triggers, and rebuild your life with accountability and compassion. Unlike a therapist, a recovery coach focuses on present action and forward momentum rather than clinical diagnosis. I work with you through regular one-on-one sessions, practical tools, and between-session support.

How is a recovery coach different from a therapist or AA sponsor?

A therapist provides licensed clinical treatment and can diagnose mental health conditions. A sponsor offers peer fellowship within a 12-step program. A recovery coach bridges both worlds — offering structured, personalized support and accountability without the clinical framework. Many clients work with all three simultaneously. Recovery coaching is particularly valuable for practical day-to-day strategy, goal setting, and the period between formal treatment episodes.

Do I need to be fully committed to recovery before reaching out?

Absolutely not. I work with people at every stage — including those who are just beginning to consider whether change might be possible. You don't need to be sure, ready, or at rock bottom. A free initial consultation is simply a conversation about where you are and what support might look like. No pressure, no judgment, no commitment required.

Do you offer online addiction recovery coaching?

Yes. All coaching sessions are available online via Zoom or phone, making professional recovery support accessible from anywhere in the United States. Many clients find virtual coaching actually reduces barriers — sessions can fit around your schedule, and you can connect from the privacy and comfort of your own space.

What is the 90-Day Recovery Coaching Program?

The 90-Day Program is my most comprehensive offering, designed around the critical first three months of recovery. It includes bi-weekly one-on-one coaching sessions, a personalized recovery plan, between-session support via messaging, access to all recovery tools, and ongoing accountability check-ins. Research consistently shows that structured support in the first 90 days dramatically improves long-term sobriety outcomes.

Do you work with families of people with addiction?

Yes. Addiction affects the entire family system, not just the individual using. I offer dedicated family support sessions to help loved ones understand recovery, set healthy boundaries, avoid enabling behaviors, and find their own support and balance. You don't have to be in recovery yourself to benefit from coaching.
